How it works
The phone you already carry becomes the motion sensor. It detects acceleration, braking, and cornering and streams it to the laptop over a direct local connection. No extra hardware, no cloud account.
A transparent overlay sits on top of whatever the consultant is working on. Subtle peripheral dots react to braking, cornering, and acceleration.
The brain stops fighting the inner ear, because the eyes finally see motion that matches what the body feels. It feels calmer, and you keep working.
What it looks like

Fully customisable: colour, size, number of dots, opacity, and reactivity. A flat 2D peripheral-edge mode is also selectable, the same style Apple uses on iOS.
Why it works
Motion sickness happens when what your eyes see disagrees with what your inner ear feels. Looking at a stationary laptop screen in a moving vehicle, the inner ear says «I am accelerating», the eyes say «I am not». The brain interprets that conflict as poisoning and triggers nausea.
Adding subtle peripheral motion to the visual field that matches the inner ear closes the loop. Karjanto et al. (2018) demonstrated this with on-road studies in instrumented vehicles. Apple shipped exactly this principle as Vehicle Motion Cues in iOS 18 in 2024.
Apple covers iPhones, iPads, and the latest Macs. It does not cover Windows laptops, which is the hardware most consulting firms in DACH still issue. Ambling Ride fills that gap by turning the phone every consultant already carries into the sensor, streaming its motion to a lightweight overlay on the laptop.

During my time in consulting, the same problem came up on every trip. Cab to the airport, train ride, late client visit. Colleagues would try to read a deck, try to answer email, then put the laptop away because they felt queasy. The hour was gone.
When iOS 18 shipped Vehicle Motion Cues in 2024, I watched friends with iPhones use the feature on real journeys. They could read again. They could work again. The same friends who had given up on getting anything done in a moving car were suddenly fine. The principle was real, and Apple had productised it.
But Apple covered iPhones. My consulting friends carried Windows laptops issued by their firms. There was no version of this for them. So I built one. Ambling Ride uses the phone already in their pocket as the sensor and a transparent overlay on the laptop, bringing the same idea to any Windows machine, so the next time a consultant rides to the airport, the work hour does not have to be lost.
The name
Horses have a gait called the amble. It is a four-beat walk that moves one side of the body at a time, so the rider sits still while the horse covers ground. Before paved roads, the horses bred to amble were the ones people chose for long journeys.
We named the app after it. Your car still moves, but the screen shows your eyes what your inner ear already feels, and the ride stops working against you.

One licence covers the laptop overlay and the iPhone companion. The cue runs on the consultant's laptop and uses the phone they already carry as the motion sensor, so a licensed team is ready to go from day one.

Common questions
No motion data. Sensor readings and acceleration patterns are processed on the phone and laptop and are never sent to us. Separately, and only if you switch it on, the app can send anonymous usage statistics such as connection errors and how long the cues were active. It is off unless you agree to it, can be turned off again at any time, and anything sent is processed on servers in Germany.
Local-only by design, and there is more than one way in. Consultants can download it and install it themselves without admin rights, or your IT can push it to the whole fleet through Intune or your Company Portal so nobody touches an installer at all. The iPhone half comes from the App Store like any other app. We provide whatever documentation your review process needs.
Newer Macs get Vehicle Motion Cues from Apple directly, so they need nothing from us. For older Macs that Apple's feature no longer reaches, we are building a Ambling Ride version, though it sits behind Windows in our priorities.

No. The iPhone each consultant already carries is the sensor. Its built-in motion sensors read the vehicle's movement and stream it to the laptop overlay, so there is nothing to buy, carry, or lose. It currently needs an iPhone on iOS 17 or newer; an Android version is in development.
Cars are what Ambling Ride is tuned for today, electric ones included. EVs in particular cause more motion sickness than combustion cars, because of their smooth but unfamiliar acceleration curves. Trains are a different problem: they move far more gently, and the slow sway that makes reading uncomfortable there is much subtler than anything a car produces. We are working on detecting it, and we would rather say that plainly than claim something we have not yet proven.
